Agents of the City-County and Tar River Regional drug task forces seized heroin and marijuana in Scotland Neck.
About 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, agents stopped a vehicle on NC 125 about two miles from the Scotland Neck town limits for a speeding violation.
Reports indicate agents could allegedly smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, resulting in a search. During the search of the vehicle — with the assistance of K-9 Tony — agents seized 102 bricks, or 5,100 bindles of heroin, and 13 grams of marijuana.
The street value of the heroin seized is about $51,000.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration made contact with the United States Attorney’s Office Eastern District of North Carolina; a criminal complaint will be filed for several drug violations.
Tara Finis Simmons, 46, of Hallsboro, and Charles Lee Wright Jr., 49, of Whiteville, are currently being held at a federal detention center under a federal detainer.
“We’re going straight for federal indictments on this, no state charges,” said
