Two McDowell men accused of separate child sex crimes were indicted by a grand jury last month.
John Wesley Conner, 50, of Gloria Way in Nebo faces five counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of statutory sex offense with a child and one count each of statutory rape of a child, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, Conner’s family reported him missing, stating he was threatening to harm himself.
McDowell County sheriff’s deputies and detectives began a search for Conner. During their investigation, allegations surfaced that Conner had had inappropriate sexual contact with an 11-year-old female acquaintance on multiple occasions.
The suspect was located and taken into custody early Friday morning, Jan. 19.
Upon Conner’s arrest, further charges were eventually taken against the suspect, allegedly stemming from inappropriate sexual contact with the same 11-year-old victim. It was also alleged that Conner destroyed computer files regarding a sex offense, according to arrest warrants.
