An accused drug dealer could face a second-degree felony after he made plans with a Greeley undercover police officer to buy 5 pounds of marijuana and was arrested Friday in a Walmart parking lot.
The arrest of Matthew Nance, 33, had its origins after he replied to a Craigslist ad for “pound quantity amounts of marijuana” posted by a confidential informant working with the Greeley Police Department, according to an affidavit for his arrest. The police department’s informant passed Nance’s phone number on to an undercover police officer, who then kept talking to Nance.
Nance told the undercover officer he wanted 5 pounds of marijuana because he’d already promised it to his buyers, who agreed to purchase it from him. The problem, though, was that Nance himself only had $5,000, and with the street price for a pound of marijuana in Greeley ranging from $1,200 to $1,500, he clearly did not have enough to buy all 5 pounds, the affidavit states. He asked the undercover officer to front him a portion of the buy with the promise of paying the
