Provo police arrested a 36-year-old North Carolina man Thursday after he was reportedly found with 110 lbs. of marijuana.
Charles Lawshe was arrested on suspicion of the second-degree felony of marijuana possession of 100 lbs. or greater, the class C misdemeanor of speeding and the infraction of failure to signal.
An officer was driving northbound on Interstate 15 on Thursday when he saw a car with California license plates driving 5 mph over the speed limit and changing lanes without signaling, according to a police report. The car was stopped at mile marker 268.
An officer saw a blanket covering the car’s cargo area and Lawshe’s story of why he was in Utah didn’t make sense, according to the police report.
A K-9 officer indicated there was a controlled substance in the car and about 110 lbs. of marijuana was found inside duffel bags underneath the blanket, according to the report.
