A six-month investigation resulted in the arrest of two men and the seizure of more than 100 pounds of marijuana with a retail value of $870,000, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Patrick Paul Thomas, 30, of the 200 block of Grummen Road in Hope Mills, and Joshua Ellis Thompson, 31, of the 300 block of North Plymouth Street, are accused of importing marijuana into the county and distributing it to be sold, said Lt. Sean Swain, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
“They were a substantial supplier to the Gray’s Creek and east side (of the county) area,” Swain said.
Narcotics officers executed search warrants Thursday on a commercial building on North Plymouth Street as well as at Thompson’s home and at Thomas’ house in Hope Mills.
“What they were doing is importing the marijuana to Grummen Road, where they’d break it down for shipments to other areas,” Swain said. “Grummen Road was a distribution hub and retail sales were at North Plymouth Street.”
