Thursday night’s full moon is what’s known as the Harvest Moon, which is officially the full moon closest to the official start of fall each year.
According to NASA, the Harvest Moon gets its name because the light of the full Harvest Moon has traditionally allowed farmers to continue working longer into the night around harvest time.
