Francis “Fran” Simcic Jr., 66, of Vernon, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen Simcic, his daughter and son-in law, Ashley and Christopher Zaugg of Colchester, his son, Cole Simcic of Vernon, and his adored granddaughter, Harper Zaugg.
Born January 2, 1951, the son of Francis Sr. and Arlene (Bader) Simcic, Fran had fond memories of his New Britain neighborhood. Always patriotic, Fran enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1971-1973. A firm believer that there is no greater duty than to fight for another individual’s freedom, Fran deployed to Southeast Asia as a “grunt” (rifleman).
Following his Honorable Discharge, Fran returned to New Britain older than his years. Fran attended college on the GI Bill, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree at Central Connecticut State University and his Master of Social Work degree at the University of Connecticut.
